This Privacy & Data Policy ("Policy") explains how StoryKeeper ("StoryKeeper," "we," "us") collects, uses, shares, retains, and deletes information when you use our services (the "Service").
This Policy is part of our Terms of Service.
1. Key Ideas (Plain Language)
- We use your information to provide the Service, including creating requested outputs from your content.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can request account deletion. When you delete your account, we delete personally identifiable information and produced assets in accordance with applicable laws and our retention obligations.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways: (a) information you provide, (b) information generated through your use of the Service, and (c) information from third parties.
2.1 Information you provide
Depending on how you use the Service, this may include:
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, login credentials or authentication tokens.
- Contact details you submit for invitations: email addresses or phone numbers of people you choose to invite.
- Content: audio recordings, text you submit, images you upload, and any other materials you provide.
- Payment information: we use third-party payment processors; we may receive limited payment-related details (such as billing status and transaction identifiers) rather than full card numbers.
2.2 Information we generate or receive when you use the Service
This may include:
- Outputs: transcriptions, summaries, generated narratives, generated images, and compiled files created from your content.
- Usage data: interactions with the Service, feature usage, timestamps, performance logs, and analytics events.
- Device and technical data: IP address, browser/device type, operating system, language settings, and approximate location (derived from IP).
2.3 Information from third parties
We may receive information from service providers that help us operate the Service, such as:
- Payment processors (billing status and transaction details)
- Communications providers (delivery status for email/SMS)
- Infrastructure and storage providers
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide and operate the Service (including processing your content to generate outputs you request)
- Maintain safety and integrity (prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access)
- Improve the Service (debugging, analytics, product improvements)
- Communicate with you (service updates, support responses, administrative messages)
- Comply with law (tax, accounting, responding to lawful requests)
4. How We Share Information
We share information only as needed to run the Service:
- Service providers (subprocessors): We use trusted third parties to host, store, process, send communications, provide analytics, and process payments. These providers are permitted to access information only to perform services for us.
- Legal and safety reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect users, StoryKeeper, or the public.
- Business transfers: If we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
If we publish a dedicated List of Data Subprocessors, it will describe the categories of providers we use.
5. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access and obtain a copy of your information
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and personal information
- Object to or restrict certain processing

6. Data Retention
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the Service
- Maintain security and prevent fraud
- Resolve disputes
- Comply with legal obligations
Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why it was collected.
7. Account Deletion and Data Deletion
7.1 What happens when you request account deletion
If you request deletion of your account, we will delete:
- Personally identifiable information associated with your account (such as name, email address, and contact details), and
- Your content and outputs, including produced assets and stored files associated with your account,
in accordance with applicable laws and our legal obligations.
7.2 What we may retain
Even after account deletion, we may need to retain certain information when required or permitted by law, such as:
- Financial and transactional records needed for tax, accounting, chargebacks, fraud prevention, and legal compliance
- Security-related logs and records necessary to protect the Service
When we retain information after deletion, we will do so in a limited manner and for the shortest period required by law or legitimate business needs.
7.3 Timing
We aim to complete deletion within a reasonable period after your request, subject to legal requirements, technical constraints, and security controls.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information, following industry best practices such as encryption of data at rest and in transit.
9. International Users
If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate.
